What does "content" mean these days? 

Hell if we know anymore. So we sat down to try and find out. Here's what we came up with. 

Our thinking: "content" now fits into four buckets.

Personal Content

Information or opinion produced for non-monetary reasons or as a hobby. Also known as "user-generated content" (UGC).

Publisher Content

Information or opinion produced by a brand as that brand's primary monetary product.

Brand content

Information or opinion produced by a brand as either a client service or sales tool.

Advertising

A brand's product-focused messaging that isn't built around information or opinion.
